My First Hello Fresh Box

So last week, a friendly young gent knocked on my door and asked me a few questions about what I like to eat. Now usually I’d make my excuses and close the door as I generally don’t like the whole door-to-door-sales thing. But this guy had me hooked straight away because he was talking about food and asking me what I liked to eat.

15 minutes later, I was signed-up to my first ever Hello Fresh box. The Hello Fresh box is a subscription service, which delivers a home-cooking recipe box directly to your door each week. The most attractive thing about it for me is that you get the exact ingredients, portioned out with a step-by-step recipe for each meal. Which means no wastage, no fuss and super easy.

As a mum to a toddler, who works and runs my own business and blog, time is of the essence! I love food as you know, but I definitely lack in inspiration when it comes to the weekday dinner. I found I was rotating the same 5 or 6 recipes, that were Slimming World friendly and both me and my hubby were getting extremely bored of it. Variety is key!

So skip ahead and I received my first Hello Fresh Box straight to my door and it looks so blimmin’ pretty! It was like getting an early Christmas present (sad I know!). I won’t say too much more, because the below video takes you through step-by-step, from opening my first Hello Fresh Box, to successfully completing my first meal for two.

Here’s the video – sorry it was filmed live on my phone for Instragram stories, hence the formatting. But thought it’d be helpful for you to see, in almost real-time.

I managed to make this dish in about 35 minutes flat, whilst the hubby was putting our little one to bed. So it meant we had something seriously tasty that we could enjoy and still have plenty of time to put our feet up in those precious few hours of time sans baby.

I’ll be honest, I was a little worried about portion sizes. When I was cooking the food, I thought I could probably easily demolish the lot (which is probably why I’m trying to lose weight), but actually when I came to serve it up, there was a deceptive amount and we were both nicely full-up afterwards. The good thing for me personally is that it’s packed full of vegetables and not just carbs, which I tend to cook mostly. So the Hello Fresh box is also great for portion control.

The final thing to mention is, that although it’s a subscription (direct debit), you can pause or cancel at any time online. Easy. In fact you can do everything really simply online, including choosing your box (classic, veggie or family), how many meals per week you want (I’m currently on 3) and which recipes you want in your box. And if you’re going away on holiday, you just click the date on the calendar and it freezes. Yes – no impossible-to-cancel memberships.

Ok so I’m only a week in, so I’m going to stop going-on, but I was just excited to share this with you all, as I’m seriously hooked already. Check out my instagram for some more photos of the finished thing and keep your eyes peeled, as I’ll be sharing our other successful Hello Fresh meals.

I’ll also be making more videos, so you can see exactly how easy cooking the recipes actually is.

Are you thinking of giving the Hello Fresh box a go?
