Hotel Eden Roc Positano

That time of year is here again…summer holiday time! And if you haven’t booked yours already, you need to get to the Amalfi Coast! Positano is one of the most stunning places I’ve ever experienced in my life and the Hotel Eden Roc made ours the trip of a lifetime!

We went last summer for 4 nights during our first visit to the Amalfi Coast, to celebrate our anniversary. We wanted somewhere 4* or above and found the Hotel Eden Roc Positano on Booking.com. For me, the most important thing when staying somewhere on the sea, is having a balcony with a view, so this was the main criteria when looking for the best room we could afford. Hotel Eden Roc have a great selection of rooms and suites (some even have a hot tub!) and we booked a Superior Room with balcony. And what a view we had!

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with smiles and helpful service. The hotel had the right balance of luxury you’d expect from a 4 or 5* hotel, but also the informality of a family-run business (which is what makes Italians so welcoming). The reception area is clean, smart and grand enough, with a wine-bar to the left and the restaurant dining area to your right.

As we arrived before check-in, we were invited up to the roof-top terrace to enjoy a spot of lunch. Who were we to say no? Within 15 minutes, we were sipping a glass of Prosecco and enjoying fresh pasta…bliss! (Don’t mind me shovelling it down!)

Once our room was ready, we popped-in for a look and were extremely happy with the clean, spacious and comfortable room with an impressive terraced balcony overlooking the sea and town of Positano. Another glass of Prosecco was enjoyed on our private balcony, before we got changed and headed-up to the roof-top pool.

Now the pool was another reason we booked the Hotel Eden Roc Positano…it’s a rarity for a hotel to have a pool in this town, as space is such a premium. Their pool is small, but perfectly formed with just the right amount of sun loungers that you can recline on while enjoying the wonderful and friendly waiter service. Guess what? We might have enjoyed another glass of Prosecco (or 2) and a G&T for the hubby. We decided to relax there for the rest of the afternoon, before strolling into town for dinner. What a first day in Positano!

Back to the hotel…there is also a small fitness room (gym) on site, which I have to admit, we didn’t frequent, but is perfect for you fitness fanatics and there’s also on site spa facilities. Again, we didn’t use these as our stay was short and packed with outings, but it all looked great.

As an avid lover of weddings, this place is seriously idyllic for an Italian Wedding venue or honeymoon and I was lucky enough to have a tour of the Honeymoon Suite too (seriously awesome, large room with it’s own private terrace and hot tub…romantic!). I’d definitely recommend!

The hotel’s rooftop terrace and restaurant was a favourite haunt of ours. There’s so much to do in Positano, however we seemed to have the best view and fantastic food just steps away from our bed. So we made the most of it and had dinner there twice during our stay. The waiters were so attentive and we enjoyed a relaxed dinner, watching the sun set behind the hills of Positano. It really did feel like we were in a dream.

Now I can’t go without giving the breakfast buffet a special mention…I mean it’s seriously impressive! I’d definitely recommend you opt for breakfast in your room rate as it sets you up for the day and is a continental mix of hot and cold delicacies. Every morning there’s a cake of the day too, which the wonderful waiter brings over with the offer of espresso (proper Italian coffee). I don’t think my photos do it justice, but cop a load of this…

The hotel is located about 5 minutes from the start of the main shopping road leading down to the beach and I’d say about 10-15 minutes stroll to the beach front. Positano is obviously built into the mountain side, so very steep, but there’s a clear pathway down which the reception staff will point out to you and you don’t have to cross any main roads once you’re on the pathway. It’s a great location, slightly off-set from the bustling crowds down on the sea-front, but easy to stroll home after a big dinner and a few glasses of vino.

I would highly recommend the Hotel Eden Roc Positano for a romantic break away on the Amalfi Coast, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Have you stayed in Positano before? Where would you recommend?
