Friday Night Al Fresco – A Review of Southern Eleven Manchester

Southern Eleven is easily in my top ten places to eat…ever! It’s a winner every time and my go-to place when I have visitors. It oozes comfortable sophistication, in a buzzing atmosphere in Spinningfields, central Manchester.
It’s not your average diner food or setting, instead it’s a cool cocktail bar and restaurant serving-up gastronomic delights with an open kitchen and a seriously stylish interior. You look around and you’re surrounded by young-professionals, families, first-daters, girls-night-outers and regulars – this place has a lot of regulars.
What I’m saying is, it’s a mixed-crowd as everyone loves Southern Eleven and everyone fits in. It’s a pleaser on every level. This is basically because the food is out-standing. It’s authentic, careful and delicious. The owners and chefs take great pride in making sure they get everything right, from the mouth-watering menu, locally-sourced produce, authentic cooking techniques and unique twists like the ‘Shake your own cocktails’. It’s a fun place to be, with prompt service and an effortlessly cool vibe.

Cibo – an Italian restaurant in Didsbury

After nearly 3 weeks on honeymoon in Italy, we were whole-heartedly in love with Italian food and Prosecco. Coming back to a gloomy Manchester made us miss this incredibly!

So when am email came through saying a new Italian restaurant had opened in Didsbury, Manchester, we knew we had to go along and relive our honeymoon bliss. Promising authentic tastes of Venetian cuisine at affordable prices, we couldn’t wait for our Saturday lunch. And as luck would have it, we woke up to the sun shining and the nicest weather we’d had in the UK all year…this was going to be a good day!

Italian food equals yum. Part 2

So I’ve already begun to tell you about my food experiences whilst on honeymoon in Italy in a previous post here. But there was oh so much more Italian food to talk about!

Aside from the beautiful trattorias, osterias and bars that we frequented, we also cooked our own food and even indulged in an authentic Tuscan cookery course. This was a definite high-light of our trip and something I’d highly recommend to those of you that are looking for something a bit different to do and something that involves a real piece of Italy. A Tuscan cook comes to your house or apartment, laden with the freshest of local ingredients and helps you cook your own 4-course Tuscan meal, before serving you whilst you devour every last bit!

Our cookery course was booked through Arianna and friends, a local Tuscan tour operator that specialises in food and wine tours and experiences. They pride themselves on taking things slow, so you can really indulge and take-in the real Italy. Arianna and her friends (one of whom was our cook, Veronica) are a wonderfully friendly bunch of people, who will guide you through some Italian experiences personally, giving you that special experience that you’d want on a holiday or honeymoon. We really are glad we met them and will definitely be calling on them when we’re back in Tuscany.
